The Layla Grant

 Young Female Entrepreneur — $2,000.00

In Honor of Layla Van Hall

[ February 5, 1959 — July 1, 2015 ]

The Layla Grant is funded by AMC Realty’s Solar Green Energy Property located in Milton, New York. AMC Realty hopes to empower a young woman pursuing equality, sustainability, and education.

Layla grew up in the 1970’s, when the Women’s Rights Movement sought for greater Freedom and Equality —

Layla resisted conformity, injustice, and oppression. Her spirit of voracious self-education gave way to a life of Service and adventure. Layla’s studies of Chinese Medicine, both Herbalism and Acupuncture — took her out West, where she lived by educating others, caring for horses, and participating in her community with a genuinely kind heart.

Layla’s generosity wove her life with grace and acceptance, though she confronted adversity and opposition — Layla’s resilient nature and belief for the future, filled her continuous actions of Service with light. Layla is remembered for her compassion, intellect, and fearlessness.

The Layla Grant is awarded to a young woman attending Emma Willard School. This $2,000.00 grant is a gift.

Emma Willard School distributes The Layla Grant to support and empower their Signature Program each year — Signature is Emma Willard School’s capstone program for juniors and seniors that allows them to deeply explore a personal passion. Signature students work on a project for two semesters with an on-campus mentor and/or an expert off-campus, and share the summation of their work in a presentation to the entire school community.

The Walraven Foundation is grateful to participate in this empowering Act of Service.
